Nicely done! This is a blog post I had seen with a similar idea -- maybe her printables work?? (http://iheartorganizing.blogspot.com/2010/11/school-paperwork-storage.html). I have been using a plastic box with hanging folders for each month. I don't go through it when it gets home -- just throw everything in the February folder. Then will pair down at the end of the year. But that means having (eventually) three plastic boxes underfoot. But I guess if I teach them to empty their folders themselves into it, that wouldn't be so bad in a "homework" area -- which we do not currently have, but will soon need, I'm sure. I like the first day of school pix idea as well as the school pix she mentions. Btw, I did take the leap and am PATIENTLY awaiting the arrival of my Project Life stuff from UPS. Cuz I don't have anything else to do. :)

Poor thing. I hope she feels better. I often lament the way that our healthcare works, but I agree that it's hard to complain when it's free. I hated my experience of giving birth in a military hospital, and I'm always very envious of my civilian friends whose doctors took more pity on them. (One friend was given a C-section when her labor stalled after 8 hours. I was told that I could be in labor for days before my doctors would consider such a thing. It ended up taking 18 hours.) And yet, when we left the hospital we didn't have to pay a dime. So it's definitely a balancing act. As my father-in-law loves to say, "You get what you pay for."

I have all their vaccination records and keep the copies of their physical reports each year, but other than that I don't keep their records. Fortunately we've never had an illness more serous than a virus and a couple ear infections, cases of strep throat, and one bout of pneumonia. You can always ask to have a copy of their full medical records made for you to have at home anytime though they likely will not give you originals.

Do you ask for copies of reports when you see the doctor? I was just thinking that yesterday when we went to get a few of the kids their shots... There were vaccines that were recomended, and then there were other ones on the list he could have given but didn't? It just made me think how much trust we put into doctors and lab people, and hope we know what they're doing. Kinda scary. I'd love to get copies of all of our records to be more informed...

No. That is not a good idea. There is the possibility of great emotional growth next year, leaving him ready to go on to first grade with the others, but if he isn't you don't want the other scenario. There are no easy answers in raising children, are there?

I am on the list to get this one from the library...I have read all her Kay books but they are so far apart these days that I don't even remember what happened in the last one...LOL. I probably could reread them all and it would almost be like a new adventure.

woops...pressed it too early. Since Abby is also a young one, when I was putting her in PK I looked up the states age requirements... since we are a transient people... and I realized that CO actually has a pretty conservative age limit... a lot of states are allowing children to turn 5 up to Jan 1 and still enter K. But the vast majority are Sept or Oct cut-offs. Which means nothing really.. but did lead me to think that even if Abby is the "baby" here, she will probably fall in the middle of the pack when we live elsewhere. However, for a little guy I can see the inclination to wait a year... and hey! it won't hurt in high school when he is the first with a drivers license. :)

Oh dear... Look what goes down while I am in class all week! I think it is great you have teachers that are willing to say what might not be a "popular" opinion. I think he would excel either way, but am glad you guys are comfortable with your decision!
