>For All My Teacher Friends

>And, well, anyone else who is interested.

I don’t remember doing this in kindergarten.

The instructions say:
“”Short vowel: a (apple)  Long vowels: Letter says it’s name
Say the name of the picture.  If you hear a short-vowel sound, color the box with S in it.  If you hear a long-vowel sound, color the box with L in it.”

Note: Looks like I’ll have to teach her about the appropriate use of apostrophes.  But maybe later.

(In this picture, can you pick out my handwriting versus Bear’s?)

But seriously – check out this girl’s handwriting.  I can’t even tell you how much of an improvement this is over what it was just a month ago.

Just to clarify, I did help her with the spelling of some of these words.  I suggested she write what she thought they were so that her teacher would know what she was calling these pictures.  For example, I wasn’t sure if what she thought was a coat was actually a suit, or the pool a cue or a ball.

Also?  These shoes were tied by none other than Miss Critter herself.  When I picked her up from school today, her teacher proudly announced that it had finally clicked.  And while she’s not yet using the “Bunny went around the tree” method, the “Tie the Mickey Mouse ears together” way seems to be working well.

Can someone please tell me when she got old enough to tie her own shoes and know the difference between long and short vowel sounds?  Because I live with the child, and I just didn’t see that coming.

  2. >Truthfully? The its/it's thing would upset me quite a bit.Her printing is awesome; maybe it's something to do with Christmas break or whatever, but my daughter's printing has also improved significantly in the past month.

  4. >Oh my! Kindergarten is the new first grade! Although, I have not taught my students short and long vowels! Now I feel like a slacker!

  5. >I don't know if ALL her classmates were doing that homework sheet. I've been in her classroom and I don't see some of her classmates being ready for that concept yet. I do know that Bear and two of her classmates get pulled aside daily for some advanced reading skill-building with their teacher. So it's possible that this homework packet is tailored with her academic abilities in mind.
